began as an idea to express in music and video the frustration I was feeling as an American over the major financial and economic upheaval the country was in at the time. I wrote the lyrics in the early part of 2010, and began putting the music and video together that summer. By early fall I was thinking(hoping) that the situation was about to improve and the song would be an afterthought, so I hesitated finishing it. But as fall turned into winter nothing got better. Far from it in our family—my wife was laid off from her job of four years just two days before New Year's. And now as I write this(July 2011), the country is halfway through another tough year and in a situation where 70 million Americans could possibly not receive their social security, veteran and disability checks in August. I can honestly say that I never thought I would hear an American president say these words in regards to people's benefit checks:

"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue, because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it."
—President Barack Obama, July 12, 2011

How was that, Mr. President? Are you kidding us?
After hearing this and learning how Congress was discussing raising the country's debt ceiling, I couldn't sit on the sidelines any longer—this verse from the song kept ringing in my ears:

"If we work together we can surely make a start,
And tell the politicians that they need to do their part.
They all work for us, it ain't the other way around,
And they might be out of jobs soon if the country don't rebound."

The video to the right is the result. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did writing the song and creating it.
