As an only child growing up on a hog farm in Bearskin, North Carolina, Johnny 'Dubyah' Williams was a country boy in every sense of the word. He would take piggyback rides on their boar Big Joe, climb trees, explore the woods and fish the streams around the farm, work in the tobacco fields, and in general get to know the environment around him. And a major part of that environment was the music he heard—country, bluegrass, Cajun, gospel and big band were just some of the styles that were prominent in his early years.

In his teens he discovered the music of the times—rock, heavy metal and pop. The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Duran Duran were just a few of the many groups and artists that influenced his adolescent years. He admits having distanced himself from the influential music of his childhood because he felt it was "too old-fashioned".

Now as an older and somewhat wiser individual, he has come to realize that those first styles of music hold just as much emotion and enjoyment as the others he embraced in high school. And in writing songs in those styles he has come to love them. (besides, wearing a cool looking hat and boots is just so dang fun!) But he doesn't consider himself a Western Cowboy—he's a Suthurn Sowboy, born and raised. And he hopes that can be seen—and heard—in his music. Just don't be shocked if he sneaks a rock & roll song in every now and then. (and yes—purple is his favorite color.)

SOWBOY (rhymes with cowboy):
A country boy who embraces his suthurn roots, and enjoys playing the music he grew up listening to, be it country or rock & roll—preferably both.
